Swami chat with students in the verandah

Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

In the evening, Swami gave Padanamaskar to the Uttar Pradesh Bal Vikas children and their teachers. Wristwatches and Prasadam were given to them. In the first lock, Swami told the waiting ex-students to go home and start working. Nevertheless, they said that they wanted to stay with Swami. He then told a guest that nobody wants to leave from here. Every one wants to stay with Swami. Then Swami spoke with the research students.

Swami: What did (mentioning a teacher’s name) he teach today?

Research Student 1. : Swami, we met in the morning.

Swami: Which subject?

R.S.1: International Finance.

Swami: Who is a leader?

R.S. 2: Swami, Krishna.

Swami: Who are the followers?

R.S.2: Dharmaja, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva.

Swami: What about Bheema? He is also devotee. Bheema kodathadu. (Bheema will beat you.)

Swami:What is the meaning of Bharatha?

R.S.2: Bhava, Raaga,Thaala.

Swami: Tht is music. What is the meaning? (Getting no response from the students)’Bha’ antae prakasamu (means effulgence). ‘Ra’ antae ramminchudamu. (attraction). ‘ta’ antae tanmayathvamu. (forgetting)

(Getting attracted by the effulgence and forgetting one’s own self. That is the meaning of Bharatha).

Who is Bharathi? (No response from the students). Bharathi is Saraswathi. What are the other names of Saraswathi?

Saaraswathi Namasthubhyam, Varade Kamaroopini, Vidyarambam Kareshyaami Siddhirbhavathume sadaa. Padma Badra Visaalakshmi, Padmaakshe SuravarniniNithyamPadma Dayadevi Samampahe Saraswathi Bhagyavathi Bharathi.

See, how many names! Mrs. Brahma! What are those of Lakshmi? (Swami then said all those names and asked one of those Research scholars to repeat the same). You should know all these; it is there in Mahabharatha. "Yenna Bharathe, Tanna Bharatha ( What is not there in Bharath is not anywhere else in the world). Who said this?

Research Stu. 2: Swami, Vyasa.

Swami: There is a saying."Vinte Bharatame vinale, Tinte Garele tinale. (Only Bharatha is worth hearing, and ‘Vada’ is worth eating!

Swami: Who is the ideal leader?

Research S. 3: Tata.

Swami: Tata is his surname. His real name is Jamshed. At that time, people were known by their professions – Rikshawala, Jhatkawala, etc. What did he do?

Re.St.3: He set up industries.

Swami: Nee thalakai! (Your head!) He was in iron and steel business. He used to import and export. He got cycle-rickshaws from China to Bombay. He wanted to clean up Bombay, but he could not. Even now, it is dirty. Where you have come from?

Re.St.3: Jamshedpur Swami.

Swami: (Smiling): Tht is why you know so much about Tata. (To students) American President, Lincoln, was a great man. His father was a carpenter. Their’s was a poor family. His mother used to stitch clothes for other small childre nd thus they made a living. Lincoln was taught to be a self-confident man. Later, even though he lost in the elections a couple of times, he was elected as the President of America. He had self-confidence, Atma Viswasamu.

Swami: Columbus (repeated thrice), what did he do?

Re.St.2 : Discovered India, Swami.

Swami: Thalakai! Discovered America. As a small boy in Italy, he lived by the side of the ocean and would always keep staring at it. He had many unaswered questions. From where did all these water come? Whre does it go? Is there land beyond these waters? He wanted to find out. Who financed his trip?

Re.St.1: Spanish queen.

Swami: He was given money by the Spanish queen. She gave him two ships and four men. They traveled for a long time in search of land. After 10,000 miles, they did not see land and the other men got disillusioned. However, Columbus, had self-determination and self-confidence. They went on. After10,500 miles, they spotted lad. All because of self-confidence. (Praising the students), Many of them have double degrees. The students (former) are working in various companies. Some are in Madras….. Sundaram Finance. They work very well. Once, the employees were planning for strike. Our students said that they were are being paid for work and not for strike; we will not be part of it. The other employees accepted our students’ explanations and called off the strike. There had been no strikes since then.

Three students are working in Indonesia too, in Sai Lakshmi Mills. (Pointing one ex student) He is from Bombay. He left his and joined here. He has done his engineering and MBA He now works in the Book Trust. His brother is in Indonesia, our MBA student. (Then Swami introduced another ex-student) His first brother is a teacher in our school; second brother works in the Central Trust. The third - MBA hogaya – (has finished MBA). Wait kartha hai. (He is waiting) (Calling a student):Where did you work?

Sudent: C-DOT

Swami: They did not relieve him immediately. He had to pay one lakh (to break the contract), to come and study here.

Swami pointed to a devotee and asked a student,

Swami: Do you know this old man?

Student: No Swami.

Swami: He was Principal of the Easwramma High School fifteen years ago. (Talking to a senior devotee): Today is your birthday. I know! 81 years! (Swami materialized a gold bracelet and Himself put it on the devotee’s hand. To the boys) Eighty first birthday. (Referring to the bracelet) Bahar peetal ka lekar pahena. Mein gold ka dhiya (He was wearing a brass one bought from outside. I gave him a gold one.

(From the Book HEART TO HEART – Part II)

Swami: (To Prof. Anil Kumar): Are they all devotees? (Referring to the devotees, who got up after Swami went into the interview room). They stand up the moment I go in. It is bad habit. (Sir remained silent). Tell! Sometimes you also go. You have to go home for tiffin. Similarly, they also go. They sit in lines for long time.

Prof.A.K: Yes, Swami.

Swami: The crowd is increasing day by day.

Prof. A.K.: They are coming for festival. It came in News papers that in September, first train is starting from Bangalore to Puttaparthi.

Swami: Papam! Is it so?

Prof. A. K.: It seems that the minister has told.

Swami: Before September, August is here. It would have been nice if the train were from Dharmavaram to Puttaparthi. All North Indian trains would come.

Prof. A. K.: It is full of politics and business, Swami.

Swami: (Referring to the Management Workshop): Who spoke this morning? (Two students who had made a presentation in the morning as part of the Management Workshop went near Swami. To one of them): You spoke on small and big industries, isn’t it?

Student: Yes, Swami.

Swami: It is good. But it is hard to practice. Nobody has patience. In preaching-hero, in practice – zero. Very less time, isn’t it?

Student: Yes, Swami.

Swami: How much time?

Student: Twenty minutes, Swami.

Swami: Both of you, together, twenty minutes?

Student: No, Swami. Both of us spoke twenty minutes.

Swami: What did you speak on? (The boys told Swami about their topics.) What did they say? (They boys acknowledged that their talks were appreciated).

Student .1: Pada Namaskar, Swami.

Swami: Take. (Swami gave Pada Namskar to both boys.)

Swami: Now a days for everything, they are using computers. It is not good. If you want to buy anything, they inform through computers. But for it, you have to give address; it is dangerous.

Prof. A. K.: But now a days computers are at rapid growth Swami.

Swami: Peruguta, Virugata korake. (Growth is for breaking only)

Prof. A.K.: Even in Medicine, they are using computers, Swami.

Swami: Anybody may use, but we will not use.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, it seems if genes are changed, we won’t get diseases.

Swami: Computers have also diseases. Sahavaasa Dosham. (Bad company) There is no defect in computer. The fault is with the composer. A little is there with computer too.

(Referring to computer viruses) Recently it attacked in America. It took 15 days for recovery.

Prof. A.K: Is it because of man that computers get diseases?

Swami: Yes. Tell me your company and I shall tell what you are!.

Pro. A. K.: Is there anything without man’s company?

Swami: No. All are attached to man, so all have diseases. (A boy showed sketches drawn by him) What is that, with all flowers? Is it Eswaramma Devi or some other Devi?

Student: Swami, Eswaramma.

Swami: Did you see her?

Student: No, Swami.

Swami: Then how do you know?

Student: I saw her in photos and drew.

Swami: Good, but instead of drawing all these and wasting time study well.

Student: Swami, mother has cancer.

Swami: I will take care of her.

9th July 2000

Extracts from the Book, "HEART TO HEART"

In the evening, Swami mentioned something in reference to a devotee.

Professor Anil Kumar: Swami, is she a devotee of Swami?

Swami: Yes, I have known her since she was five years. She is very much devoted to Swami. When her parents forced to her marry, she told that if they wanted her to marry, that person should be coming to Parthi and visiting Swami frequently.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, he comes frequently. I think he came recently, one month ago.

Swami: Yes. He came last month. I only performed their marriage.

(Then Swami inquired to a teacher about his child, who is diabetic.)

Prof. A.K.: Swami, how to control the diabetes?

Swami: Diabetes has symptoms like sweating, vomiting sensation, headache, etc. Not only diabetes, any disease like malaria, and typhoid is already present in our body. Only thing is we have to control them; we should allow them to come out. In the same way, all tastes like sweetness, sourness, bitterness-everything is present in our body itself.

Prof. A.K: Swami, if everything is present, they say that tongue is the means for knowing the tastes.

Swami: No, no. When we eat something, the taste comes from inside. Tongue is only a temporary one.

Pro.A.K.: Swami, how to control the diseases?

Swami: You answer.

Pro.A.K.: By controlling thoughts and keeping mind in control, Swami.

Swami: Thinking of keeping mind in control itself is a thought. It should come by itself. Mind should be always in control.

Prof. A.K.: Businessman and others, they have to think a lot; then they cannot control diseases?

Swami: It is compulsory. They cannot help it.

Prof. A.K: Swami, does diabetes come first, or blood pressure come first?

Swami: First, Blood pressure comes, and it is followed by diabetes. It is like a younger brother. (Swami laughed). But once if any of them comes, they do cannot be cured again.

Prof. A.K: How to control worries, Swami?

Swami: You answer.

Prof. A.K: Swami, by repetition of God’s name.

Swami: Not by repetition of name. You should be God Himself. In the same way, you should not be a lover, because if you are a lover, you may hate one person and you may love another. However, if you are love itself, you can love everyone. (Prof. Anil Kumar took Paadanamaskar on hearing this statement of Swami.

Swami: To schoolboys, who are holding cards) what is that? (Referring to the symbol of heart on the card.)

Student: Swami, Heart.

Swami: (showing to Anil Kumar) Is this the shape of heart?

Prof. A.K.: No, Swami.

Swami: (Pointing to the boy): Did you see heart any time?

Student: No, Swami.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, recently (mentions a doctor’s name) did heart transplantation.

Swami: Yes, they will perform heart transplantation, but it won’t work for much time. It is Srishti Rahasya (secret of creation) No one can go against it. Today in newspapers, it will come that they performed heart transplantation. All press people will come and click photos and the next day, he will be going to the graveyard but no one bothers. Diabetes patients should not take more sweets. It is like poison for them and especially sweets like jelabi are very dangerous.

Prof. A.K. Swami, can they eat all fruits?

Swami: No. They should not eat fruits like jackfruit, and mango. They can take black grapes, watermelon – only 4% sugar is present; in karbhooja 5% sugar is present. They can take either watermelon juice or karbhooja juice.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, can they eat sapota (a fruit) It is also known in India as Chikoo"

Swami: Sapota! It will support the diseases. They should not eat vegetable like brinjal.

Dumpa kuralu tinte vaalla dumpa tegutunde (Peals of laughter). A telugu song which means that tubers are not good for diabetes patients. They should not eat more. They shsould take wheat or ragi instead of rice. Rice converts itself into starch very fast whereas wheat will take more time. The doctors advise diabetes patients to take three pills a day, but if they take even one pill extra, the effect of the pills will not be there. They should control their diet. You believe it or not, from the day I was born, nearly 75 years are over. I never had hunger; I eat for the sake of others. I never had sleep. They (the people who stay with Swami) will be observing me always. They will be thinking, "Why does not Swami sleep?" "Why does He always keep walking?" For their satisfaction, I act as if sleeping. But I won’t sleep.

Prof A.K: Swami, Karunyananda also used to say that Swami never eats or sleeps. (Late Karunyananda used to stay along with Swami in Poornachandra) Swami, he lived a for a long time.

Swami: He lived less than 90 years. (A student showed a card in which it was written "Heart 2 Heart! Seeing the number ‘2’) Swami said, " For number 2, they have constructed near old hostel. (Swami pointed out the direction of toilet and every one laughed.)

Swami chats with students 13-7-2000

During evening Darshan:

Swami: Where do you come from?

Student: Swami, from you!

(Swami smiled at him. Students belonging to the Institute music group showed a card to Swami, asking permission for music program on Guru Poornima day).

Swami: Koorcho..Koorcho (Sit,.. sit)

Later Swami went near the birthday boys and autographed five to six photos. Then he came to Ganesh Portico.)

Swami (to the students): What did he (Anil Kumar sir) talk in the morning? Bhajagovindam or Shankaracharya? (To Anil Kumar sir) How many slokas did Shankaracharya compose?

Prof. Anil Kumar: Swami, e composed 12 and his disciples composed 14.

Swami: How do you know?

Prof.A.K.: Swami, from the books on "Adishankara".

Swami: No. He composed only one sloka –

Samprapte san neegite kale…nagi nagi rakshati dutrum karene (Meaning: When the end comes, your grammar will not protect you.)

Shankara got five Jyothir lingas and installed four of them and one is missing.

Prof. A.K.: Where is it Swami?

Swami: (Smilingly) It is Chidambara rahasyam. He placed it at the feet of Nataraja.

Where are the four Peetams?

Prof. A.K.: Swami, Dwaraka, Singeri, Puri and Badrinath.

Swami: Who were the disciples in-charge of these Peetams? (Anil Kumar sir tried to answer. But could not relate the disciples with their respective Peetams correctly) ‘

Swami: Don’t guess. Shankaracharya propogated Advaitha (Non-dualism); Madhavacharya – dvaita (dualism) and Ramanuja – Vishista Advaitha (qualified non-dualism). But through Advaitha, one cannot enjoy the sweetness of God. Like sugar which cannot enjoy its own sweetness. Through Vishista Advaitha, you can enjoy the sweetness of God. You can reach Advaitha state through Vishista Advaitha.

Once in an argument, in favor of Advaitha, he defeated his opponent, Mandala Mishra. Mandala Mishra’s wife, Umaya Bharathi, put forth a question on Kama-thathwa (experience of a householder). But Shankaracharya could not explain because he has not experienced it. Therefore, he did prakaya pravesham (entering another body). He entered a dead king’s body, experienced it, and explained it to her. That time, in a temple in Kashmir, the doors of the temple closed. Umaya Bharathi told him, "You talk about Advaitha. But, you have to experience through him and explain. It is Dwaitha (dualism). He agreed to his mistake and the doors of the temple opened. After realizing his mistake, Shankaracharya made a pyre (Fire) and jumped into it. But Varuna devatha (God of rain) took mercy of him and it rained. Only his legs got burnt.

Who are his important disciple?

Prof. A.K.: Few of them are there Swami.

Swami: No. Padmapada was the important disciple. He gained wisdom by Guru Seva. It is said, - ‘Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheswara; Guru Sakshat para Brahma’ (Guru is Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswara. Guru is verily embodiment of Brahman) Once while he was washing clothes in the river, there was sudden flood. To protect his Guru’s clothes, he started running. Wherever his foot touched the surface of the water, there appeared a lotus under his foot. Hence, he was called Padmapada (Lotus Feet). Advaitha is Jnana Kaanda and Dwaitha is Karma kaanda. In between them is Vishista Advaitha. To get Jnana (wisdom) through Bhakthi (devotion) is Vishista Advaitha.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, Paramathma is nithyam (permanent) and Prakruthi (creation) is anithyam (non-permanent).

Swami: No. Prakruthi is also nithyam. But prakruthi vasthu (created objects) are anithya (non-permanent). It is like this – individual cows may die. But not the cow clan. People may die; but Maanava jaathi (humanity); society always remains, even though people in the society die. Prakruti is permanent. It is only through prakruthi that one can attain Paramathma (Divinity). You cannot ask which is important. Mother and father, both are important for a son. Similarly, both Prakruthi and Paramathma are important.

Prof. A.K.: Swami, if Prakruthi and Paramathma are important, where is Ekatwam (Onness)?

Swami: Ekathwam is there in Nithyatwam (permanence). Bhinnatwam (separateness) is anithyam. Ekathwam is nithyam. The word, "bhinna’ itself ,eams veru – separate.

A Teacher: In Thrayee Brindavan, Swami has told that Bhinnatwam and Ekathwam are two sides of the same coin.

Swami: Yes, they form two sides of the same (more stress) coin.

Teacher: Swami, Unity in Diversity.

Swami: Yes. Ekathwam people do not go for argument. Only Bhinnatwam, people go for argument.

Parameshti, Samashti, vayashti, and shrushti.

Ddivinity (Parameshti) in community (samashti) operates through individuals (vayashti) for creation (Shrushti).

(From a distance a schoolboy showed a card to Swami. Swami signaled him to come close. On the card, it was written – "Swami, I want to merge in you".)

Swami: (to the Institute students): Boys don’t know exactly the meaning of some words. They learn some words and write them, but they don’t know the meaning. (Swami opened the above-mentioned letter and showed it). See, what the boy has written, "I want to Merge in You"! What is the meaning of merge? Rivers merge in the ocean and they lose their identity and be one with the ocean. It should be like this. It is true merging. Before merging, they have different names, different taste, different forms, and once they merge, they lose their identity completely. It is not easy.

Student: How is it Swami?

Swami: It is not by practice that you go near God and then merge with Him. It is Upanishad. Upanishad is coming near. The four steps to come near are, Salukyam, Saarupyam, Saamipyam, Saayujyam. First remember the name (Saalukyam), and then comes the form (Saarupyam); slowly you come near (Saamipyam) and finally merge (Saayujyam). (To another student): Do you want to merge?

Student: Yes, Swami.

Swami: (To another student, punning the words majjiga and merge). Ask Shiva Shankara Sai to give him one glass of majjiga (butter milk) Majiga le saktha hai.Merge kaise ho saktha hai? (You can have butter milk. But how can you merge?)

Near the interview room door, the music group students again showed their card, asking permission for the music program on the Guru Poornima day.

Swami: (seeing the card): Enduku ra idi? (What for is this?)

Students: Guru Poornima program Swami.

Swami: (showed a letter written by the above mentioned student). See, somebody has written, ‘I want to merge’, without knowing, what merging is. What is the meaning of merging? (no answer) Take river. River goes and merges in ocean. Before merging, river was there. After merging there is no name and form for the river. There is only ocean. Salokyam, Saroopya, Saameepyam, and Saayujyam. River goes to the ocean for merging. But ocean will not easily allow it to merge. It will say, "Go away, go away" for two or three days. That is backwater. The river will say, "No, I want to merge. I want to merge’. Finally the ocean will say, "come in". That time, the ocean will rise up and the river will go underneath. If you seen the place where the river merges, you can see the ocean water on the top and the river water below. Sameepyam is going nearer.

(Swami saw their card and went through the songs written on it.) Only ten songs. Swami read out the song – ‘Every moment of my life…."

(To the Registrar) How is the vice-chancellor’s health ?

Registrar: Now he is fine Swami.

Swami: For diabetics, the best medicine is diet control. No other medicine is required. (To music group students): Which class are you studying? (They replied that they are from MBA, MFM, M.SC.) All are in MBA or M.Sc. No MRS? (to a guest) what is MRS? (no reply) Mrs. (laughter) (To another student): Which class?

Student: Swami, M.Tech.

Swmai: M.Tech or M.Tick?

Teacher: If Swami gives permission, we like to have some solo performances.

Swami: Whatever you asked, do that. If you have more programs, do according to the time available.

Swami chats with students

Extracts from "Heart to Heart"

In the morning, after Darshan and interview, Swami came out and spent time with Primary school students. After that, Swami blessed the secondary school students, who showed cards celebrating the fifth anniversary of their hostel. Before Bhajans, Swami told the warden that He would give Poornachandra session this after noon).

Main Points from Divine Discourse to students in Poornachandra:

  • Students, in the dream of life, all are actors. The director is God. But He too comes down as an actor. God being the director takes the role of an actor and is bound by certain rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are applicable to all actors. Some forget the rules and regulations and trespass; but the director, acting as an actor, follows the disciplines strictly. Even though He is all-powerful and all mighty, He submits Himself to time. (Example of Hiranya Kashapa and Hiranyaksha). God’s punishment is based on time etc. God also has stipulation. He does not transgress his limitations. But man does not follow law and even criticizes God. God excuses all these and tolerates them. (Example – Sishupala, Kamsa). Only at the appropriate time He punishes. This punishment is not punishment; it is Raksha (Siksha is also Raksha). To consider one as many is brama (illusion). Considering many as one is Brahma. I am one, multiplied into many.

  • Who is Narada? He symbolizes the one who is traveling from Ignorance towards Knowledge. He is Sarva Jnani.

  • For God, tests are His taste. These tastes are needed to take you high. God gives us results basing on our action.

  • So long you are near and dear to God, none can harm you. (Example of Garuda and snakes on Shiva’s body). Consider Sannidhi as Pennidhi. God’s love is broad. It is expansion of love. Human love is contraction of Love. One should be Broad-minded. Your love is like drops of water. God’s love is like an ocean. As culture is coming down, we are becoming narrow minded. We should be broad-minded.

  • Embodiments of Love, it is not possible to know nature of God. Be broad-minded. Kill selfishness. Never allow your love to go in a narrow way. When you are far from God’s love, you see everything small. But as you come near, you will see it vastness.

  • Students, make use of your words properly. Because of your mean feelings and low desires, you are losing the divinity. So, give up your bad qualities. God is ready for everything, but you should deserve the right to ask. Give up all bad qualities and develop god qualities. This is sadhana. All actions should be done to please God. Whatever you are doing, think that it is God’s work, certainly it will become good.

  • All are one. Be alike to everyone. Jesus said, "Death is the dress of life". There is no difference between one person’s love and another person’s love. Don’t give scope to bad thoughts. Give up bad habits; have steady faith. Don’t give rise to doubts; don’t be a doubting Thomas.

  • Students, Swami is not angry with anybody; I am not Durvasa. Love is my form. When you get doubts, take time and discriminate, not individual but fundamental discrimination. Develop holy feelings. Study, do your jobs. But never forget that God is the actor. He is a very good actor. If you understand His actions, you will become Hero. God is perfect Hero. He has no desires. Hand of Bhagavan only gives; but I ask for only one thing’ Give me your Love. Your Love is My Property!

Swami chats with Students 9h August,2000

Extracts from "Heart to Heart"

Swami gave Darshan at around 6.50 AM. After speaking to some of the doctors:

Swami: (to warden) What are doing tomorrow?

Warden: Lalitha Sahasranamam, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Gayathri Japam, Ashtotharam, and also Rudra Homam. (All these are planned to be done by the students themselves.)

Swami: All fine. But better be careful about doing Homam. It should be done with all rituals. There should be no mistake. You should have Dharma Pathni (virtuous wife) along with the main person doing the homam, like Dasara functions in Poornachandra. All other types of pooja can be performed. But don’t do Homam. (Because students don’t have proper knowledge of it.)

Warden: Yes, Swami. As per your command and blessings.

Swami: (Calls a student to Anil Kumar sir) Who got the last year all round gold medal?

Prof. A.K.: I don’t remember the name, Swami

Swami: Sri Krishna Parashuram, I remember everything. Who was Parashuram?

Prof. A.K.: Avatar, Swami. Why was he associated with destruction, Swami?

Swami: (to a student) Who was Parashuram?

Student: He was a sage.

Swami: He was the son of Jamadagni. (Swami narrated Jamadagni’s story).

Jamadagni means one eye. His wife used to get water from the Ganges and mix the Ganges water with mud. With this mixture, they used to do homam. One day, when Parashuram’s mother was fetching water, a plane was passing by, in which Karthaveeryarjuna was seated. She saw him and thought, "What a handsome person! Can there be such a handsome person in the world!" When she came back home, the water did not mix with the mud.

Jamadagni came to know that it must be because of some impurity. He got very angry and commanded his son, Parashuram to cut off his mother’s head. Parashuram obeyed his father and without asking anything, immediately cut off his mother’s head. Jamadagni was very happy that Parashuram obeyed him and asked Parashuram to ask for a boon. Parashuram wished that his mother’s head be placed back again. This way both the ends were achieved; the father’s command was obeyed, and the mother was saved.

Once when a king Koushika (later known as Vishwamitra) came to meet Jamadagni. The king and his army were served delicious food with the gift of Kaamadhenu (the divine cow). The king liked the cow and asked Jamadagni for it. But Jamadagni refused by saying that the cow was meant for Rishis and not for kshathriyas. The king used force and ordered his soldiers to go and capture the cow. The cow pleaded Jamadagni to save her but Jamadagni said, "It is your responsibility to take care of yourself and I am not in a position to save you." Then Kaamadhenu sent soldiers who emanated from her. The war between the Kaamadhenu’s army and the king’s army resulted in the defeat of the king. This made the king angrier and he killed Jamadagni. Parashuram who saw his father’s death developed anger towards all Kshathriyas. In order to vanquish the ego of kshathriyas he went round twenty one times punishing Kshathriya kings. Only Janaka and Dasaratha were saved. When Parashuram came, Janaka was performing Yagna and Dasaratha’s marriage was going on.

Finally, when Rama broke Shiva’s bow, Parashuram came there angrily. Rama had twelve kalas (attributes) and each brother had one kala each and Parashuram had the last kala. Totally sixteen kalas. He asked Rama to break his bow. When Rama did so, he accepted defeat and gave the last kala to Rama and went back.

10th August 2000

The morning Bhajans were sung by the devotees from Crotia, Yugoslovia, Bosinia and Slovia. After the evening interviews:

Swami: Which MBA boy spoke this morning? (One student, who spoke in the moral class, got up). Moses? Who are Jews?

Student: Followers of Moses.

Swami: Who is Moses?

Student: A prophet, Swami.

Swami: What is the essence of teachings of Moses?

Student. 1 : Love thy neighbor as thyself.

Student 2: Love thy stranger as thyself.

Swami: Who is stranger? First, you must enquire, that mimamsa. Everything they is Sanathana Dharma. Boys took books, sat in the night, made a copy, and spoke in the morning. What are the Ten Commandments?

(The student began to tell the ten commandments.)I am the Lord, thy God. You shall not worship any God other than me. You shall not steal. (Swami told the student who spoke in the morning to answer). Thou shall not commit…. (Before the student could answer….)

Swami (to a teacher): They did under your guidance. Isn’t it? You tell the ten commandments. Tell what is in your Heart.

Teacher: Those who seek God never suffer; they do not steal; they do not lie…

Swami: (to Warden): Must not do anyaya, akarma. All these are there in Bharatha samskriti. Everything came out of Indian culture only. Ekoham bousyami (Everything came out of one.); Eekam sath vipraaha bahuda vadanthi. (The Truth is told by scholars in many ways). Our culture is anaadi (without a beginning.) 980 years back Islam came, 2000 years back Christianity, 3000 years back Jews, 4000 years back Buddhism. But before 5000 years, no one knows what happened. Indian culture is anaadi. Lakhs of years since Rama, Krishna… and even yugas before.

Swami: How was the function in the morning?

Warden: By Swami’s grace everything went on well. Swami, as you said the previous day, we have not performed homam; we did pooja only.
